This Too is Torah: Teaching Jewish Sexual Ethics Conference
SAR High School 503 West 259th Street, RiverdaleAs educators in yeshiva high schools, we know that students are very curious and have many questions regarding sex, sexual drive and the body, and their intersection with ethics and halakha. The topic is so central to the lives of our yeshiva high school students as they grow into young adults and yet they do not always have a clear path for learning about this topic with kedusha and clarity.
Our schools range across the YU-affiliated and Modern Orthodox community, and we have different approaches to engaging this essential and challenging issue. Our speakers will bring a variety of perspectives, as well. We think that we will all benefit from a convening that addresses our shared Torah values, the challenge of conveying these countercultural values to our students, and the specific ways we educate around them in each of our schools.
Two years ago, Ms. Shuli Taubes developed an interdisciplinary curriculum to serve as a learning and discussion guide for yeshiva high school students. Over the past year, Ms. Taubes and Yoetzet Halacha Ilana Gadish completed writing, editing and publishing a book entitled This Too is Torah: Teaching Jewish Sexual Ethics.
